These works continue a meditation that began with the Cherry Blossom series, an attempt to hold the tension between impermanence and presence without resolving it. The cherry blossom first emerged for me not simply as a symbol of beauty, but as a confrontation with transience itself: the briefness of form, the inevitability of change, and the strange tenderness that appears when something is understood to be temporary. Fragile Devotions expands that inquiry through different flowers, each carrying its own emotional architecture, mythology, and psychological weight.
The peonies move inward. They are quieter works, more intimate and fully painted, built through layers of gesture, atmosphere, and restraint. The flowers appear suspended between emergence and disappearance, existing less as botanical subjects and more as emotional states. The new sunflower works shift in another direction entirely: louder, more immediate, almost confrontational in their optimism. Constructed through a combination of hand-pulled silkscreen and painting, they borrow the visual language of pop iconography while resisting its surface simplicity. Repetition, overspray, drips, and imperfect registration become part of the image itself, allowing the mechanical and the human to collide within the same surface.
Across the exhibition, the flowers operate as vessels rather than decoration. They carry memory, fragility, longing, devotion, grief, vitality, and surrender simultaneously. Each piece moves between abstraction and representation, between control and erosion, asking what remains visible after emotion passes through matter. The works are not attempts to preserve beauty permanently, but to witness it honestly in the exact moment before it changes form.
